Personally I don't like surprises, they're obviously unexpected therefore can be very scary. As an officer I believe it is probably important for them to know exactly what they're walking into when dealing with someone. Therefore when arresting someone, I'm sure they don't like surprises as well. However a few Australian officers received a cute little surprise today while arresting a 50 year old woman. The woman was stopped and arrested regarding "outstanding matters". However when the officers asked if she had anything she needed to say, she handed over her green purse she had with her. The women told the officers there was a baby Koala inside. Obviously that was like a "wait, what?" moment. Honestly, how often does someone getting arrested say they have a koala in their bag? The statement clearly shocked the officers, however they proceeded to open her bag carefully. Fortunately the woman's statement was shocking but true. There was a six month old Koala bear in the green bag, that officers believe the woman had attempted to rescue the day before. The woman was taken to deal with her "outstanding matters" and the Koala was taken to the Australian Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The bear was dehydrated but other than that perfectly okay. The staff has since given the Koala fluids and named him Alfred. Luckily Koalas are one of the protected species in Australia, therefore Alfred will be will taken care of.
